Dhidhdhoo Chief rebuts E-Sandhaanu

Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

Dhidhdhoo Island Chief Mr. Ibrahim Hassan has denied the claims reported in E-Sandhaanu that the island citizens had called for the resignation of the Environment Minister.
In its 37th issue, E-Sandhaanu reported that Dhidhdhoo citizens were not happy about the attention given to climate related environmental degradation in their island and that they wanted the Minister to resign.
However, Mr. Hassan said that the E-Sandhaanu report was misleading and totally untrue.
He said that the Minister had visited the island and observed the damages, following which his Ministry had taken action. The electric power situation on the island has also improved following the Minister’s visit, Mr. Hassan said.
Hassan also expressed his dissatisfaction at the abuse of the current climate of increased media freedom, to make the baseless claims. E-Sandhaanu has not given reference to any valid and reliable source of information in their article.
Hence, the Island Chief denied the claims and offered apologies on behalf of the citizens for the any inconvenience caused by the inflammatory claims.
