Fishermen from the South fishing in the North.

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

Fishermen from the South have started fishing in the North after a long period of low fishing in the North. The fishing is generally better in the North than in the South and the Southern fishermen who had traveled to the North are following the advice of Mifco to fish in the North. 10 big dhonis from the South are fishing in the North and according to Mifco on Sunday alone one dhoni hauled in 8 tonnes of fish.
To encourage fishermen to go fishing during this low time, Mifco has increased the amount paid for small fish. Mifco now pays the same amount to big and small fish. In addition, Mifco is also providing oil and ice on a credit basis.
Mifco is bringing from Kuddo MV Kalaminja 402 loaded with ice and oil. The ice will help to to keep the catch fresh. The boat left for the North on Monday.
75% of the fish Mifco received last week has been from the North. Though MV Mifco 101 is kept at Ihavandhoo, other boats will be stationed at Makunuhdoo and Kanditheem to save the fishermen the amount of oil spent on travelling to the container boat. Mifco aims to keep a container boat as close as possible to the fishing area and Mifco would like to take the opportunity to thank the fishermen for the tireless work and cooperation showed in fishing.
