Destination Pakistan Year 2007 starts

Destination Pakistan Year designed to promote the tourism of Pakistan by the Tourism sector of Pakistan has been officially opened. The ceremony was officially opened in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan by the President of Pakistan Mr. Parvez Musharaf. The campaign to promote the tourism of Pakistan and obtain the tourists’ attention to Pakistan is being marked widely in the main cities of Pakistan. Many activities starting from the week and continuing throughout the year are planned for the event.
Forty nations were invited to the opening ceremony. Invited guests amounted to more than 100 and among them were reporters, tour operators traders and Government officials.
Destination Pakistan 2007 Year was officially begun in the Convention Centre of Islamabad on last Friday night. The President of Pakistan Mr. Prvez Musharaf and the Tourism Minister of Pakistan, Nilofaru Bakhtiar spoke in the opening ceremony. Both in their speech reiterated that the purpose the event is to open to the world the hidden natural beauty of Pakistan. The President in his speech indicated that it will be the dawn of a new era in tourism. However, he said that he didn’t hope for a large number in the first year and it should be first the people of Pakistan who should experience the beauty of the country. He also said that for this infrastructure should be developed and called for the business people to invest in infrastructure.
The Tourism Minister indicated that Pakistan would be important for the tourists in three areas and said that Pakistan tourism is divided into three areas. The Minister said that for the nature lovers high mountains and lush valleys were found in abundance, and for those seeking antiquities Pakistan had many historical sites and for those interested in religious sites Pakistan had many religious monuments to offer.
The Prime Minister Shaukath Azeez met the dignitaries and invited guests of the Destination Pakistan Year on the 16th of December. Shaukath said that each invited member was a ‘good will ambassador’ who would assist in the promotion of Pakistan’s tourism.
A special ceremony was also held in Lahore for the festivities being marked under Destination Pakistan and Visit Pakistan Year. The Chief Minster of Punjab met the invitees.

Pakistan is one nation in the neighbourhood to have temperatures with ranges from -50- to +50. Further, it boasts of four of the highest mountains of the world and with abundant snow it is expected to attract the attention of different tourists. For these reasons, it is the consensus of the guests of the events held from December 15th to 17th that Pakistan will become a favourite destination of tourists of different categories.
